I’ve been looking forward to this movie for months, and the hype around it has tripled in the past week, with the premiere in New York City last Friday, stars going on television (the TODAY show, Jimmy Fallon, etc), and now with the release of the soundtrack. I’m so excited to see these songs performed on the screen in a week when I go to see the movie with my friends!

All of them are phenomenal, let’s be honest. With a cast of this caliber, with composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (who worked on ‘La La Land’ and ‘Dear Evan Hansen’), it was bound to be amazing. However, I definitely have favorites. “Rewrite the Stars,” Zac Efron and Zendaya’s duet, is one of them. Zendaya plays Anne Wheeler, a trapeze artist, and Efron plays Philip Carlyle, who becomes a ringmaster for P.T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman). The actors have talked a lot about the sort of “forbidden love” their characters have, since the movie is set sometimes during the late 1800s or early 1900s, and interracial couples were pretty much nonexistent during that time. This duet is so heartbreaking and beautiful, and from what I’ve seen from the trailers and clips, the whole scene is probably going to make me cry.

I also love “A Million Dreams,” “Come Alive,” and “This is Me.” Every song is catchy, and not only adds to the plot but holds a special meaning to a character or to the story as a whole. I know almost all the words to the entire album already, and I’m extremely looking forward to the release of this movie, and my excitement has only increased after hearing all these amazing songs.
